How does my Ultrasonic Diffuser work?

The doTERRA Petal diffuser is an Ultrasonic diffuser which produces a very fine, cold mist. It does this by using very high frequency vibrations (ultrasonic) to seperate the water and oils into small particles to produce a micro-mist. That’s what that little disc in the middle does, resonate and shake the water so fast that is mists up.

This uses no heat and therefore keeps the oils in the same state that they are in the bottle (just in really, really, really small drops). Because you mix the drops of oil with water, you use less oils and they are diluted for safety as well. The petal diffuser works amazingly well in a bedroom or standard size living room but for more open plan or very large spaces (also very high ceilings) it may struggle. I have had success with using a few more drops and longer running though. Normally, I only have 2-3 drops in my diffuser in the bedroom but for my living space (open plan house with kitchen, living and dining room all connected) I put 6-8 drops in the diffuser and run for the full 4hrs.

Why don’t we recommend heating/burning your oils with a candle

Well, we know that when cooking oil (like olive or canola) is heated to the point it starts to smoke that the structure of that oil…at a molecular level…is changed. And changed for the worse. Overheating oils can create trans fats which are downright terrible for our health. Essential oils are very much the same and over heating them by burning them with a candle can change them and ruin the therapeutic benefits. Sure the aroma is still there and you will still have a divine smelling house but all the wonderful therapeutic benefits we talk about with the doTERRA oils may be lost.
